Hey there, all! So I decided to hijack Philip’s blog – seeing as he’s not around right now. Yup, this is Angela typing away. It’s Sunday afternoon, 30 hours into a 12 week separation (with a short weekend at his graduation from ODS in mid-September). I just got off the phone with him for what may be the last time for two or three weeks. Who knows. So far it hasn’t been too bad, but then again, I’ve taken the kids and gone on mini-vacations without him before for a few days at a time. I still miss him, but been there, done that. But I’ve always talked to him every night when I’ve been gone and this time it appears we won’t talk for awhile. And the two phone calls I’ve had from him from up there have been a bit of a lesson in frustration. Apparently, five bars of signal strength one second and then without moving a hair except to take a breath – one bar of signal strength and, bam, dropped call. We got the four most important things out of the way, though: 1) I love you, 2) Address for us to send mail, 3) Emergency phone number where I can leave a message saying “LTJG Philip Carson call home,” and 4) I love you. It’s all good – and God is awesome! We are so excited, albeit a bit apprehensive, too!
I still don’t really know what we’re getting into, but we’re getting there fast, and it’s definitely and exciting time! I dragged Philip to Patrick Air Force Base on Friday to be counseled for our first move. After leaving that meeting, we now know that this first five weeks is going to go very quickly for all of us. The kids and I will be moving up to Jacksonville, NC in about three and a half weeks. So I have three weeks to get my house in order for the military to send someone to pack it up. Granted I’ve been working off and on for months going through all those boxes in my garage that have been following me for anywhere from three to ten years. I am proud to say that most of it is gone! But now I have these random stacks of stuff – mostly in my bedroom so the kids can’t get into it and spread it everywhere – that came from some of these boxes that I has to go somewhere. And once I finish going through everything, I have to take my digital camera and take pictures of everything, every object on every wall, in every cabinet, etc., in preparation for the move. I also have to decide what is coming with me in the car and put it in a separate room away from everything else that the movers will take. And if it’s not coming with me it needs to be gone or they will pack it up – including the kitchen trash if I leave it available from what I’ve been told by others! Yuck!!
So we move in three weeks and a week after we get to NC the kids and I will fly up to Newport for graduation. And then we’re hanging out with my sister-in-law and her kids for a week, and that put us at half-way through. The last half of the twelve weeks we get to spend homeschooling and learning our way around Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune. At least that’s what I think the next 12 weeks will look like. We’ll see how much of that actually stays the same. In theory there will be updates from Philip with pictures of ODS. Hopefully I’ll get an update tonight or tomorrow from Philip to be able to post.
